The Rongai Route is the only trail that ascends Mount Kilimanjaro from the north, close to the Kenyan border, thanks to its low slope and untouched natural environment. One of the less visited routes on Kilimanjaro, this lovely trail takes you through farming, forest, and alpine moorlands, is ideal for anyone seeking to climb the great Roof of Africa without the hassle of crowds and with the extra comforts of professional guides, cooks, and porters.
This route offers a relatively “easy” climb, a high rate of success, a moderate and steady ascent, as well as the opportunity to observe wildlife in the wilderness. The main advantage of this Kilimanjaro route is the chance to avoid crowds and take in the breathtaking surroundings. This route can take from six days to seven days. You can also opt for a day to acclimatize so as to lower the risk of altitude sickness.
Even though it is regarded as less scenic than the Lemosho and Machame routes, there are still picturesque areas, particularly in the later days of the climb. The camp below Mawenzi Peak is also one of the most scenics on the mountain.
