With our 5 day Mount Meru trekking package, you will experience the second highest mountain in Tanzania and the fifth on the African Continent. Mount Meru was formed by a tremendous volcanic eruption that left a horseshoe-shaped crater.

During a Mount Meru hiking, you will also get a chance to see some wild animals in the form of a walking safari. On your trek you might come across big 5 animals like buffaloes and elephants.

This 5-days Mount Meru climbing allows you to experience the “Meru Hiking” and a full day game drive in Arusha national park.

5 days Mount Meru Hiking itinerary

DAY 1: GATE-MIRIAKAMBA

Start the day with morning meal and then drive to Momela gate to start your Meru Hiking. Pass open grassland which is good spot to see buffaloes, warthogs and other herbivores. Moreover, cross the ngarenanyuki river and proceed climbing through a Meru mountain forest.
Enjoy the birds as well as colobous monkeys and blue monkeys.

Elevation: 1597 Meters (5240 Feet) – 2503 Meters (8212 Feet)
Distance: 13.8 Kilometers \ 8.6 Miles
Hours: 3 – 4 hours.

Accommodation: Mriakamba Huts

DAY 2: MIRIAKAMBA-SADDLE HUTS.

After breakfast, you will proceed with your hike early in the morning. Ascent steeply through lush Mount Meru mountain forest full of bwildlife. Proceed with the hike till you reach the halfway point of elephant ridge and enjoy the amazing crater view.

Arrive at saddle huts during afternoon, and after lunch and a short break, go on a small hike up little meru (3820 M) for a sunset then return back to saddle huts for the night.

DAY 3: Saddle Huts to Rhino Point to Peak to Rhino Point to Saddle huts to Miriakamba

This will be a very long day during your 5 days Mount Meru Trekking. Summit attempt climbing during midnight, around 1 to 2 at night. The summiting route is very steep towards Rhino Point (3850 M) and very narrow ridge on the way to summit. Reach the Mount Meru summit (4566M) right at the sunrise and enjoy one of the amazing sunirise.

The views are stunning, See Mount Kilimanjaro from Mount Meru. After taking photos and experiencing the summit descend back to saddle hut.

Hours: 10 – 12 Hours.

DAY 4: MIRIAKAMBA-MOMELA GATE

Leave the hut around 8:00 in the morning and descend back to the Momella gate. On your way down you will see more wildlife and the ash cone. Hike through forests and meadows all the way to the gate where your driver will be waiting for you and drive you to Tulia Boutique Hotel for dinner, celebration and overnight.

DAY 5: ARUSHA PARK GAME DRIVE

After your 5 days Mount Meru hike, go on a game drive around Arusha National Park or Tarangire park.
Arusha National Park lies at the foothills of Mount Meru. The area is famous for its Momela lakes flamingoes and variety of wild animals.

Arusha park is known to host country’s largest giraffe population, baboons, velvet monkeys, the fascinating Abyssinian black and white Colobus monkeys and many animals.

Proceed with a full day game drives and drive to lodge in the evening.
