Questions About 4 Day Safari from Zanzibar

4 Day to Tarangire, Serengeti & Ngorongoro crater Safari from Zanzibar

“Most parks on the Tanzanian mainland are a short flight from Zanzibar, although in some cases you may need to change planes in Arusha if you fly in to Serengeti.

If I could visit just one area of Tanzania on my safari from Zanzibar, it would be the country’s north circuit. This is where you undoubtedly find Serengeti National Park, the Ngorongoro Crater, and Tarangire. Both destinations are close and are fantastic wildlife destinations if you can spare the time. To do all four of these destinations, you would need a minimum of 4 days.”

“The length of your safari from Zanzibar will depend on your destinations. With just 3 to 4 days, consider focusing on Tanzania’s northern circuit parks, like Tarangire, Serengeti, and Ngorongoro.

If you have 10 days available, you could complete the Northern circuit or follow the wildebeest migration in the Serengeti.

Feel free to reach out to us for combined Tanzania safari and Zanzibar packages. Many visitors to Zanzibar also explore the Tanzanian mainland, so you’ll have plenty of options. Lastly, to keep costs down, try to minimize flights while on the mainland.

“There are numerous factors that affect the cost of a safari from Zanzibar to mainland Tanzania. Generally, you can expect to pay at least $300 per person per day, with higher-end packages costing three times that or more.

Several factors contribute to these price variations. Accommodation is a major one: staying in luxury tented camps is significantly more expensive than opting for a budget camping safari. The number of flights also plays a big role. Other considerations include the duration of your safari, the season (prices can double in the high season compared to the low season), and the type of safari you choose (private safaris are more expensive than group ones).

“Your safari from Zanzibar will likely involve flying. Although there are boat connections between Zanzibar Island and the mainland, they are much slower and less convenient for those planning a safari in Tanzania.

Besides your flight from Zanzibar to the mainland (typically to Arusha or Dar es Salaam), you may also take another flight to the national park of your choice.

While flying is more expensive than driving, it saves valuable time for your safari rather than on the road. Plus, you’ll enjoy spectacular views. Taking an air transfer is like a scenic flight, and there’s something special about landing in a national park surrounded by wildlife.

“You can combine a trip to the Serengeti with a stay in Zanzibar, and many tours offer this option. Typically, this involves flying from Zanzibar to Arusha in northern Tanzania, followed by a flight to one of the Serengeti airstrips. Alternatively, you can drive from Arusha to the Serengeti, stopping at attractions like Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater, though this adds considerable travel time.

The Serengeti is definitely worth visiting and is one of my favorite parks in Africa. The wildlife is amazing, especially during the great wildebeest migration, visible from January to August or September. However, any time of year is great for spotting wildlife, including big cats, elephants, and many other species.
